"Talks [have taken place] on intensification of economic relations, on among other things the possibility of constructing railways and roads. We also encourage Chinese investors to establish cooperation in terms of the sea and aviation sectors," said Mikołaj Karpiński, spokesperson for the ministry.
The visit, which ends on Tuesday, was comprised of not only ministry representatives, but also representatives from Polish State Railways (PKP) and the roads authority, GDDKiA. Companies from China would be participating in tenders to construct railways and roads in consortia with Polish firms, among others.
Rzeczpospolita noted that by encouraging more companies on the market, the government can expect to see lower prices for construction services. So far this year prices have dropped by 30-40% in relation to cost estimations. "The Polish offer is particularly interesting, as PKP cooperates with companies specialized in preparing projects and executing infrastructure investments. This provides opportunities to establish effective cooperation of companies and Chinese capital," the Infrastructure Ministry official said.
